Spring is my favorite season in Florida because the weather is cool enough to be outside, without being too hot and humid. From March until May, I take advantage of the enjoyable weather and call up my family and friends for outdoor activities. From BBQs to backyard bonfires, I love welcoming guests into my yard.
Before I give my guests a call this spring, I’m getting my space ready with outdoor entertaining essentials. For me, these are the most important ways to make my outdoor space and yard an enjoyable retreat for entertaining my family and friends.
Outdoor Entertaining Essentials for Your Next Spring Fling
Entertaining Area– Create a space in your backyard that is welcoming for guests. The two most important things to keep in mind is seating and lighting. A patio table with string lighting is a great place to start for alfresco dinning, such as a BBQ, but think beyond that. Sure a BBQ is a must, but consider a fire pit with seating around it too. The fire will keep your guests warm, while also being the perfect excuse to bring out the marshmallows!
Pop Art Herb Garden- An herb garden is must for spring entertaining and it’s an affordable way to add a dash of color to your patio. Start off with a plant stand that can hold the fresh herbs that you like to keep on hand, then plant your herbs in colorful containers and planters.
Some of my favorite herbs to keep on hand are rosemary, basil, cilantro and mint. These are great for cooking (hello homemade salsa!) and for creating tasty drinks such as raspberry mojitos!
Outdoor Serving Ware- Keep your guest refreshed with colorful serving accessories such as a pop of color pitcher, glasses and/or cups, plates, flatware, colorful straws and printed napkins. Before inviting guest over, make sure that you have enough serving ware for each of the guest you have invited.
Bright Blooms- Flowering plants are a great way to decorate your outdoor space, while also adding splashes of color. I have several planters and hanging baskets around my backyard, that are easy to move around when entertaining.
My favorite plants to decorate my outdoor space with are succulents, cactuses, and air plants because they are easy to care for. Not all of these plants bloom, their unique aesthetic is always visually appealing. My love for these plants started inside of my home when I created a DIY Succulent terrarium. I love them so much that I introduced them into my patio by creating my own fairy garden. This little addition is always a conversation starter when I have guest over.
Lush Lawn- A lush lawn is a great way to get excited and inspired for spring entertaining. Looking at my yard always makes me want to call my friends over for a BBQ, but first I make sure to shape up my lawn.
Before starting my spring celebrations this year, I headed to Walmart and picked up a bag of Scotts® Turf Builder® Bonus® S Southern Weed & Feed (the purple bag). This product kills lawn weeds such as dollarweed and clover, while feeding and strengthening against heat and drought. It can we applied any time weeds are growing, so I like to keep a bag on hand.
