The second I hear the word travel, I immediately start to wonder what I’m going to pack for my upcoming adventure. I always want to be prepared for whatever occasion may arise, especially when it comes to my makeup looks. A subtle day look. A smoldering smoky eye. A girls gotta have all of the necessities while on the road, but how much do you really need to bring along with you? Most importantly, how should you pack your makeup bag to begin with? I’ve got all of the travel makeup bag essentials and tips that you will need before booking your next vaycay!
Travel Makeup Bag Essentials and Tips
It’s all in the bag- Your makeup bag is the foundation of your travel cosmetics case. It’s important that the bag is travel-friendly, while being roomy enough to carry your makeup-musts. But asides from the functionality, the bag should also represent your personal style! I have a whimsical personality and my York makeup bag shows my colorful style every time I take it out for a touch up.
Latin-American brand Obelus, is the creator of the cutesy York makeup bag. I love This makeup bag for traveling (and for daily use) because it has all of the needs I mentioned above, plus it’s waterproof and hand washable. This bag is also foldable, which means that it’s easy to store when I’m not using it. In the mean time, it’s spacious enough to carry my makeup, without taking up too must real estate in my purse. Best of all—it’s so stinkin’ cute! Even better?!?!? I’ve got a chance for you to win an Obelus York Cosmetic Travel Case below!
The Obelus York Cosmetic Travel Case is available on the Sears Online Marketplace, eBay, Groupon and Amazon. You can also check out other cute and colorful travel bags by Obelus by visiting their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For my Miami gals, make sure to visit their kiosk at the Miami International Mall.
Tip: Keep our makeup bag in a handy place such as your purse or carry on bag for quick touch ups while traveling.
Protect your bag and your brushes- How many times have you arrived at your destination with the hairs of your makeup brushes all mangled? I’m going to be the first one to raise my hand about this one. Ugh! It’s awful, but I’m glad that I FINALLY learned that it could be avoided. A travel toothbrush holder is the perfect place to stash your brushes and it will also helps to keep the lining of your makeup bag clean. Double win!
Leave no room for spills- Spills are not only a tragic loss of liquid makeup products, they are also messy to clean up. After all, everyone knows that cleaning is a no-no when traveling! Avoid spills by placing a piece of saran wrap under the lid of each liquid product in your travel makeup bag and make sure that all of your lids are tightened before you depart.
Sample sizes are your travel buddies- Don’t let your makeup bag weigh you down when your on the move. Travel size products, such as mascara, are wonderful for your travel makeup bag. They contain enough product to last a few days and if you happen to forget something on your stay, you don’t have to worry about leaving a $50 primer behind.
No need to pack everything but your bathroom sink– I’ve been that girl that stuffs a giant bag with makeup and hauls it around in my carry on bag from one lay over to another. After my trip I then realize that I could have avoided my aching arm by traveling more efficiently, aka bringing only what I need. My experience has taught me to bring multi-purpose products with me (like my Tyra Opps Liner and Corrector in one!) and makeup that can easily transition from day to night.
Tip: Save your Sephora samples for travel! And don’t forget to ask for free samples when you make a purchase.
