Relaxing sounds. Plush towels. Tantalizing aromas. Soothing facial massages. Yes, I’m talking about the spa. Can you tell that it’s one of my favorite places to be? Unfortunately my purse doesn’t agree with my desire to have a permanent address at the spa, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t make everyday a spa day.
Although I don’t have the time to do an extensive facial each day, I make it a point to treat my face to a little 10 minute TLC session. To be honest with you, this isn’t something that I always did. In my early 20s I thought skin care simply meant washing my face every day. Moisturizer? Tonic? What was that?
I would cake on my makeup and then wonder why I had breakouts regularly, as well as pores the size of Oklahoma. My skin was dry and dull, but thank goodness that I eventually learned that there is more to skin care than washing off my makeup from the night before.
My skin transformation didn’t happen over night. I tried many products, which then lead to my skin freaking out because I was using all sorts of things with ingredients that I still can’t pronounce. It wasn’t until I developed a skin care routine of natural products that I saw a big difference. One of the brands that I discovered along my journey was Burt’s Bees. They offer a selection of products that are 99% natural and over half are 100% natural, at a very reasonable price point. By combining natural products with my DIY home facial for glowing skin, my skin is now more radiant than ever.
Now, as I approach 30 (gasp!) I’ve made skincare a priority in my daily routine. I also treat myself to facial once a month at the spa and I follow up daily with my mini home facials for glowing skin. My mini facials give me something to look forward to at the end of each day and they are the perfect way to squeeze some “me time” into your day.

Create the ambiance- Your at home spa should be a rejuvenating retreat. To create the ambiance, light a scented candle and allow it burn for a few minutes before you start your treatment. Then, hit play on your relaxing sounds soundtrack on your playlist. If you don’t already have a few favorite tunes to unwind to, check out the Relaxation Radio station on Pandora.
Cleanse with Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil (This is a new product that is available at Target)- The first step to healthy, glowing skin is cleansing. Start by dispensing the Cleansing Oil into dry hands and gently massage over a dry face. Then, wet your hands and continue to massage the product into your face. Once you are done cleansing you face, rinse thoroughly and pat your face dry.
Ok, so I know some of you are probably wondering why I’m telling you to use oil on your face. As ironic as it may sound, the Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil is not oily. It’s idea for normal to dry skin and it’s great for gently removing dirt and makeup from your skin. This product contains Coconut oil (I’ve raved about olive oil over here) and Aragan oil, which leave skin clean and soft, without clogging pores.
Burt’s Bees Brightening Refining Tonic (Available at Target)- Now that your face is clean, moisten a cotton ball with tonic and apply it to your face in an upward motion. Make sure to get your neck too, but stay away from your eye area. Allow the product to dry before moving to the next step.
Using a tonic daily is essential to remove traces of dirt, oil and makeup. It evens out skin tone and will leave you with a brighter complexion.
Burt’s Bees Brightening Even Skin Tone Moisturizing Cream (Available at Target)- Dispense one full pump of product onto your index finger and place 5 dots on your face: forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks.
Then, using both hands, gently massage the product into your face. Treat yourself to a mini facial massage by using your index and middle fingers to massage your face in wide sweeping motions. It’s best if you work on each section of your face individually and massage each section for 30 seconds.
