Congratulations! You’ve officially made it to spring! Is it just me, or did winter seem really long this year? While it’s not all sunny skies and short dress weather in Seattle, I’m just happy that I can finally stash my heavy sweaters away for the year. Goodbye heavy knits and hello bright colored jackets, gingham, and all of the other fashion trends I’m diggin’ this season.
Speaking of spring trends and updates, let’s talk about spring beauty. Just as much as I enjoy refreshing my wardrobe for spring, I also love to update my beauty stash. Spring is a great time to go through your makeup and beauty products and get rid of things that no longer work for you, and replenishing them with some essentials for the season. I did a a spring edit and updated everything from my hair care products, to lightening up my signature scent for the season, and I’m sharing some tips with you today.
Spring Beauty Update: Here are the top 5 things to update
Do some spring cleaning
Just like you clean out your closet for the arrival of the new season, your beauty essentials also deserve a look over. Start off by getting rid of products that are expired or things that come into contact with your mucous membranes. Things like mascara and eyeliner are on this, but if you need more details about how long to keep a product, check out my makeup expiration guide. While you are cleaning you may notice that you have products that you never use, but just don’t like them for yourself. Consider donating these to a friend that may be able to use them.
Level up your skincare
The dryness of winter affects your skin and can leave your skin dehydrated. This can make your skin look dry and dull. This a great time to use a good moisturizer daily, while exfoliating 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin. You’ll have a spring glow in no time.
Swap to a lightweight foundation
I don’t know about you, but I tend to use matte full coverage foundation in the winter. Then as soon as the flowers start to bloom in the spring, I put it away for a CC cream that leaves me with a satin finish. I still get great coverage, but the lightweight formula feels rights for the season and also gives my skin extra moisture.
Ditch your dark lipstick for something colorful
Ya girl loves a good vampy lip, but after 3 months of rocking a deep colored pucker, I’m ready for something fun! How about you? This a great time to try one of the seasons hottest lipstick trends. As you probably know, matte lipstick is still very popular and will continue into the spring. If you find that matte lipstick is too drying for you, consider trying a moisturizing matte lipstick or one with a satin finish. Not into a matte lippie? Try a glossy lipstick that is hydrating. As far as color, pink is always a good choice for spring. From muted rose, to a raspberry, you’re bound to find a pink shade that is perfect for you.
Lighten up your signature scent
Spring always fees light and airy to me, and I like to match my scent to this feeling. This spring I switched my perfume to a body spray for a lighter scent that matches my mood. Just in time for the season, Caress launched 3 new botanical body sprays that give me a nice just showered scent all day. My favorite one is the Caress Pink Peony Body Spray, which layers perfectly with my Caress Body Wash. The fun thing is that all of the body sprays layer well together, so you can create custom scent for yourself. I actually like to freshen up mid-day with the Caress Mediterranean Lotus body spray, which has notes of Bermagot and Amber.
