My First Brazilian Wax
I consider myself to be a conservative person when it comes to private business, but for the sake of helping other women; I will be dishing out some personal dirt.
I got a Brazilian wax recently.
I know, I know. You probably can’t believe that a girl that’s so into beauty has never gotten this treatment. I guess you can say that I’ve been a bit nervous about the whole idea of a stranger landscaping the land down below.
Like a tattoo, it looks great, but the steps to get to that point are slightly intimidating. When I booked my appointment, I was told that besides from letting the hair grow to a ¼ inch length, I didn’t need to do anything else. I wasn’t told to take a shower before I went, but I felt that it was a good idea to be freshly bathed before my visit, so I planned on that additional step.
As the appointment got closer, questions began to pop up in my head. Naturally, I brought those questions and a bottle of wine to the round table while chatting with my gal pals.
Each one of them had something to say, from “let me know how that goes,” to “I heard they bend you over a table and pull it all off at once.” You would think that comment would be the most terrifying, but one friend told me that my vagina would be swollen for a few days and that walking may be a problem. Seriously?!?! My vagina quivered at the thought. I tried not to let this conversation get the best of me, but I have to admit, I didn’t get much sleep the night before.
The morning of my appointment, I headed off to European Wax Center in Deerfield Beach. I chose to go with European Wax because I had heard many good things about their Comfort Wax and their sanitary facility. The check in process was pretty quick and before I knew it, I was in the room.
Like the day that I got my first tattoo, going into ‘the room’ is the moment that you realize that this is really happening. The time had come and I was fully psyching myself out. So when Melissa (my esthetician) reassured me that everything would be fine. Melissa explained the process and then asked me to remove my pants and underwear. I was expecting her to tell me to get into that horrid bent over the table position that my friend warned me of, and to my surprise, she never did. I simply laid down on the table with my feet touching and legs spread. This was far less intrusive than I was expecting!
Yes, this was weird position. Yes, my vajay was all out there, but it’s not as awkward as you may think or your friends may tell you. For one, let’s face it; the job can’t be done if you’re covered up. And second, there is nothing to feel weird about; the esthetician sees naked people everyday, you will not be the first or last, best or worst.
When Melissa applied the first section of wax, I was waiting for her to apply a strip. At European Wax Center they do not use strips, since it’s more damaging to the skin and causes more pain. The gentle wax they use actually hardens after a few seconds, and that’s what the esthetician will pull off. This step is repeated over and over until all the hair is removed. I’m a germaphobe, so I really liked that a clean stick is used for each application (no double dipping and everything about the process is single-use).
Ok, I know you are probably dying to know– did it hurt?
I mean, I can’t tell you that it was all cupcakes and rainbows while hundreds strands of hair were pulled off of this sensitive area. It did hurt, I did keep squirming, and I kept asking how many more sections to go (Thank goodness that Melissa was patient with me)! With that being said, I did work myself up more than I needed to. Once I got a feel for the process and knew what to expect, it became much more tolerable. Before I knew it, Melissa was applying some ingrown hair serum, which helps to prevent bumps and hydrates the skin.
When I was done I looked in the mirror and I had no irritation, bumps, or redness. Contrary to what my friend speculated, I was able to walk without any problems and I didn’t have any swelling. Asides from being a tiny bit sensitive for a few hours, I felt completely fine and fresh!
Just like getting my first tattoo, once you do it, you’re already thinking about the next one. The brief discomfort during the process is not enough to turn me away from doing this again! I’ve officially sent my razor on a hiatus and will be scheduling my next visit in 3-4 weeks. The best part is that since the hair will grow in thinner, it will be less painful next time.
In the meantime, I’m delaying the regrowth by using some of the European Wax Center skin care products. I’m washing the area daily with the Slow It Down Body Wash, which helps to prevent ingrown hair and clogged pores. Then every few days I use The Exfoliate gel, which removes dead skin and slows hair growth.
Note: There is one thing I should mention before you head off and book a Brazilian wax. This service technically includes a butt strip of wax. I wasn’t brave enough to try this yet, but it is included. If you decide to opt out, you would want to book a bikini full. With the bikini full you have the option of going fully bare, or leaving a “landing strip.”
My friends at the European Wax Center of Deerfield (this location only) are offering my readers a 10% discount off a Brazilian wax, now through February 16, 2015. Just mention ‘Pretty In Pigment’ when you book your service. For more information about European Wax Center, please visit their website and/or Facebook page.

Now I’m seriously thinking about trying this. Not 100% sure yet but it has been moved from the hell no to the maybe pile.
I had a friend tell me it looks like an angry clam afterwards.
I might give myself an early birthday present and do this before my trip… Maybe…

Ok true story. One time at lunch, a coworker and I were discussing how I’ve never ever had a bikini wax. She was totally shocked that I’d never done it and couldn’t understand at all. So I explained to her that I’ve just never really needed to because I’m blonde…everywhere. LOL And a male coworker who was in earshot, and finishing off the last few bites of his fancy little dessert cup, BROKE THE GLASS WITH HIS SPOON when I said that. So mortifying for him but hilarious for me. You’ve made me feel a little less nervous though if I ever decide to go through with this. I mean…I can handle tattoos, sure but…I don’t have any tattoos “down there” either haha

Lol! That’s a funny story. I have a bunch of tattoos and it’s a diffrent kind of hurt. It’s not so bad, but it doesn’t feel great. It’s definitely worth it though.
