Winter months in South Florida mean jackets, frizz-free locks, smaller pores and the occasional snuggle alert. While we don’t get a harsh winter like my northern chicas, we still get a few good breezy days and chilly nights. Believe it or not, it can get into the 30s and 40s at night in South Florida!
While Mother Nature usually plays favorites with us, we have seen much cooler conditions this season. Some parts of Florida have even had encounters with this season’s popular polar vortex, causing snow and ice in uncommon places.
Wintery weather wherever you live means drier air, which comes hand-in-hand with drier skin.
It’s super important that you protect your skin in the winter to avoid dry, chapped and cracked skin. Not only is this not cute, it can make your skin appear dull; age prematurely and even puts you at risk for skin infections. Not cool!
Protect your skin with my 5 must-have products for Winter Skin Survival!
1. Ceravé Moisturizing Cream ($15)- Ceravé is my go-to brand for skin moisturizing. Not only is it very affordable, it’s also very effective. It’s a cult favorite for makeup artists and dermatologist alike because it’s great for various skin types, including sensitive skin. I recommend moisturizing two times a day: after you shower to replenish the moisture in your skin and before you go to bed.
2. White Gloves ($5)– Do you want to avoid wrinkly hands when you get older? Then get your gloves on girl! Wearing white gloves to bed over a thick layer of moisturizing cream will nourish your dry hands each night and will keep them looking younger longer. It will also make them incredibly soft too! This may seem a little silly, but it really works!
3. Vaseline Lip Therapy ($3)– Keep your pucker protected this season with a good quality lip treatment. I personally like the Vaseline Lip Therapy because it works great to quickly heal dry, chapped lips. Using it regularly will also prevent you from chapped lips to begin with. I like to lather on a layer before I go to bed because it makes my lips super smooth for my morning lipstick application.
4. Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($15)– This is heavy-duty stuff and best for dry and/or cracked skin. It helps to heal the skin quicker, while protecting it for further damage along the way. I really like to use it on tough to hydrate areas such as elbows and heels.
A good trick to repair cracked heels is to apply a layer of Aquaphor Healing Ointment before bed with a thick pair of socks. Like the white gloves and cream, it will work all night to heal and replenish skin.
5. ROC Multi-correction Skin Renewing Serum ($28)– If you are in your late 20s or older, it’s time that you include a serum in your skin care routine (High-five if you are already using one). The winter is the perfect time to introduce this product into your vanity. Serums penetrate deeper into the skin than a regular moisturizer and are a key element to having radiant skin, especially in the chilly months.
I rave about the ROC Multi-correction Skin Renewing Serum because you get a lot of bang for your buck. This all-in-one product has retinol to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, and vitamin C to fight off free radicals and even out skin tone. For best results with a serum, apply it at night so that it can have time to work its way into your skin. When you wake up in the AM your skin will be silky smooth, I pinky promise!

Yes, dry skin is so not cute! Following the white glove idea, going to bed with socks over moisturized feet helps a lot with cracked heels and flaky skin. 🙂

MJ, let me know how the white gloves work for you. An older, more experienced friend suggested this to me and ever since she told me, I have been wearing the gloves. I look like Micky Mouse when I sleep, by at least my hands are soft lol!

I just went to Jacksonville for the weekend and it was so much colder 🙂
loved it there. here it’s ok though.
I want to start a proper anti-aging regimen : is the Roc Retinol serum good?
prettyinpigment says
Bee, I like the ROC skincare products because they are effective and reasonably priced. It was also recommended to me by my dermatologist, which is why I started to use the products in the first place.

Yup, have none of those, not even gloves! lmao

Terrific tips, thanks! I’ve used Aquaphor, recommended to me by a physician after surgery, and it’s excellent. What do you think of natural oils like almond or coconut oil?
prettyinpigment says
Karen I love to use natural oils and have created a few DIY posts using those oils. They provide tremendous moisture and are an excellent natural alternative.
