Lime Crime Velvetines Review & Swaches | Pink Velvet | Red Velvet | Suedeberry
Matte lipsticks are all of the range and Lime Crime has a collection that is sure to tickle your fancy—Velvetines!
The Lime Crime Velvetine collection currently includes 3 lust-worthy shades: Red Velvet, Suedeberry and Pink Velvet.
So are Velvetines really all that? You betcha!
These ultra-matte lip colors apply like a lip-gloss and dry totally matte. Or in the words of Lime Crime, “ Lip stain that goes on like a liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, long-wearing and utterly addictive!”
The lip colors are as dreamy as they sound. They are super easy to apply and live up exactly to their whimsical standards.
As far as consistency, each color is the same. The formula is lightweight and feels like you are a barely putting anything on. But don’t let this thin formula fool you; you will only need 2 coats to achieve perfectly opaque lips. And yes, once you have applied a Velvetine shade to your lips and have allowed it to completely dry, it’s on for good. Waterproof, kiss-proof and practically bulletproof– I pinky promise!
The best part is that when you are wearing a Lime Crime Velvetine, you will feel like there is nothing on your lips. Unlike other matte lip colors that can leave your lips feeling dry and chalky, Velvetines feel pretty invisible when they dry without sacrificing amazing color payoff. Just make sure you have properly prepped your lips before applying a Velvetine (Here are a few tips).
Recently Lime Crime changed their Velvetine lip applicator to a new and improved version (pictured above on the left). The new applicator is smaller and has a fluffier tip, making it much better than the original applicator (pictured above on the right), in my opinion. The new applicator picks up just the right amount of color and provides you with control, for a perfect application each time. But, if you are looking to create sharp lines, I recommend using a lip liner brush for perfect lines. Remember, this stuff stains once it’s on.
Here’s the low down on each shade:
Red Velvet
Described by Lime Crime as a “Rich, velvety red. Like petals of a red rose.”
This is hands down a must have red lip color for EVERYONE. It pairs perfectly with any skin tone and is the perfect Hollywood starlet red.
After testing all of the Velvetines, Red Velvet was the shade that provided the longest wear.
Suedeberry
Described by Lime Crime as a “Strawberry red, often associated with 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe.”
I can’t say that I really consider Suedeberry to be red; I would say it’s more of a coral color and some may say it even looks orange. It’s also a color that works better with cool skin tones, rather than warm skin tones.
Pink Velvet
Say hello to new signature lip color of 2014! Pink Velvet is the perfect hot pink lip color and is a very versatile hue. It goes well with any skin tone and it’s the perfect color to unleash your playful personality.
I must be honest; this is the shade that I found lasted the least amount of time, but I’m willing to reapply since I love the color so much!
Lime Crime Velvetines are available on the Lime Crime website and are sold separately for $19.00 a tube. To learn more or to purchase, visit LimeCrime.com.
A special thank you to my cousins, Dyanna and Daniela, for lending me their lippies to swatch these colors 🙂
