Fact: I’m a dog lover and I probably like dogs more than people. It’s harsh, but it’s true. I love all dogs, but Dobermans have left their paw prints on my heart. I had two Dobermans while growing up named Sasha and Chanel, and I feel a special bond with the breed.
When my boyfriend and I were ready to get a dog a few years ago, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted a Doberman. We adopted Gia (who is Chanel’s niece) and loved her company so much, that a year later we got our second Doberman named Diesel.
It’s amazing how much personality dogs have, even if they are the same breed. Gia is a very sweet and affectionate gal, while Diesel a free-spirited, high-strung boy. While they are both individuals, both of my fur babies are very loyal, intelligent, and high-energy.
To keep my dogs happy and healthy, I feed them IAMS dry dog food. Their pet foods offer a well-balanced diet, in a variety of formulas for all the stages of a dog’s life. I personally like the dry food because it promotes oral health, for healthy teeth and gums. In addition to having beautiful teeth, both of my dogs have brilliant coats, and high levels of energy.
My dogs love to play and their favorite playground is our neighborhood dog park. The park is a great place for them to explore and burn off some of the energy that they have stored, while socializing with other dogs. After an epic play session, my dogs are exhausted and are ready to cool down.
With the summer sizzle starting to rise, I came up with a cool way for my dogs to beat the heat—doggie ice cream!
I got the idea to make homemade dog ice cream for my pups during one of my weekly trips to Target. I had gone to Target to pick up sunglasses, human ice cream, and IAMS dog food, but ended up with a cart full of goodies for the dogs and me. Since the dogs are always trying to eat our ice cream, I figured I would make a dog-friendly version for them to enjoy too!

I have to admit, for being such a loyal Target shopper; I had never used the Cartwheel app. I have been seriously missing out for so long. Now that I have the app, I was able to get coupons for most of the items that I purchased for this recipe, including the IAMS dogs food. If you are picking up IAMS pet food on your next Target trip, here are some Cartwheel that you can use:
• 10% off IAMS dog food (includes both wet & dry) (Expires 7/25)

This is such an AWESOME idea for making a healthy and cool treat for your pups with IAMS. Especially if you live in hot climates this summer! They deserve to cool off with some ice pops too! Love it. #client

I’m also huge dog lover my Lil man Dexter is my pride and joy I would love to make these for him but I’m deadly allergic to peanut butter…. Is there a substitute I could use other than peanut butter??
Sahily says
My dogs love peanut butter, which is why I added it, but you could make the recipe without and substitute it for a pet-safe fruit, such as blueberries. You can view more options here: http://www.petmd.com/dog/nutrition/evr_multi_healthy_snacks or ask your vet.

I just want to say that the recipe looks great and I am going to try it!! One IMPORTANT thing people need to know is, CHECK that the yogurt you buy does NOT have artificial sweeteners in it!!!!! MOST DO!!!! The sweeteners can be fatal to your fur babies, be safe!!!!!!!!!
Sahily says
Thank you Natalie. The yogurt that I used didn’t have sweeteners, but I did add a note to the post to clear that up for anyone who may not know. Thank you for your suggestion.

You are welcome, happy to help 🙂

I’ll try your recipe, but I’ll use Blue Buffalo or Nutro Ultra dog food. I want only the BEST for my babies.
Sahily says
Hello Margaret! The recipe can be altered to accommodate the food of your choice. 🙂

Great idea. Only I would NEVER feed any dog Iam’s food. They have more recalls than any food made. Also, make your own peanut butter , Peter pan peanut butter has sugar and they also get recalled from time to time. Also be careful on the yogurt you use. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but folks just can’t feed dogs just anything. Healthy foods yes, but be careful.
Sahily says
Making your own peanut butter or using pumpkin as an alternative as Linda Spence suggested would work if you are concerned about the sugar.

Iams is one of the worst foods you could possibly feed your dog. Dogs are carnivores and are not supposed to eat processed crackers out of a box every day. additionally dogs are unable to process lactose so it is not suggested to use yogurt. Kefir is preferred as it doesn’t contain lactic acid and has the ability for the dogs to digest quickly. This looks like a plug for Iams.

Pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie) would be good alternative to peanut butter

That’s a great idea!
