A few days ago I was contacted by Makeupgeek.com to try some of their shadows. Clearly I didn’t have to think twice about this offer and immediately said yes! I have been a fan of Marlena and her Makeup geek community for a long time. I really think Marlena has the potential to develop an amazing product line because she has reviewed and tried tons of products, so she knows what to look for in a great product. I have always wanted to try her MUG line and was totally stoked to find out that they were going to send me 12 shadows to try, which totally made my day! I decided to review 4 of the shades today and will post the rest of the review in the next few weeks.
About: The MUG website states that their shadows are cruelty-free and are made of high-quality products at an affordable price point. Currently they have 56 shadows to pick from in a range of high-pigmented matte or shimmery shadows.
Price: $5.99 per pan (de-potted) or $7.99 for an individual compact.
Packaging: The shadows that I received came in a standard size shadow pan (1.86G), for those of you visual people (like me!), they are the exact same size as MAC shadow pans (see below). The shadows are well packed into the pan and do not fall apart very easily.
Each of the MUG shadow pans are clearly labeled with the name of the shadow. Above I compared the MUG shadow to a MAC shadow pan. I actually prefer the MUG pan because it is already magnetized without having a magnet stuck to the back. It may sound silly, but without the magnet the shadow fits better into my Z-Palette. The magnetic pan is super strong and holds perfectly in place in my Z (below). MUG shadows also fit perfectly into MAC palettes since they are the same size.
Cinderella- A pale shimmery-pink shade that is very comparable to MAC’s Jest. It works great for a soft lid or a brow bone highlighter.
Latte- Matte light-brown shade. This color can be used to fill brows, smoke out a smokey eye or worn alone. I’ve been loving natural looks lately, so I know I will get a lot of use of this color.
Chickadee- This one is very interesting. The MUG website describes Chickadee as a “matte yellow orange” and thats exactly what it is. It works great as a crease color and blends very smoothly. Although it looks bright and crazy, it’s strikingly wearable. Definitely a must have shade!
Burlesque- Described on the MUG website as a “Deep metallic burgundy.” This shadow is very comparable to MAC’s Cranberry, with a slightly lighter berry hue. The color pay off is amazing. One of the most pigmented shades I received.
So far, I’m very satisfied with the MUG shadows. I think Marlena created a wonderful variety of shadows at an incredibly reasonable price point. The shadows are very comparable to MAC at a fraction of the cost. The colors are very pigmented and last for hours.
Along with receiving these great shadows, I was encouraged to check out the MUG idea gallery. I have looked at the gallery, but never posted any looks in the past…until now! I have decided to start posting my looks in the community and I’m starting with the one below. You can check out my MUG profile and future looks here, and if you haven’t already joined the MUG idea gallery, now is the time!
