Each year Pantone releases their pick of the color of the year. 2015 belonged to Marsala, a rich terracotta red, which was embraced by the beauty and fashion community. From Marsala colored manicures, to Marsala hued tresses, we just couldn’t get enough of this sultry shade. But the year is coming to a close and it’s time to welcome the new Pantone colors for next year.
Yes, you read correctly—COLORS!
2016 Pantone Colors of The Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity
For the first time, Pantone named not one, but TWO colors of the year for 2016. The soft blend of Rose Quartz (warm rosey pink) and Serenity (cool pale blue) combined present a sense of peace and tranquility for 2016. The combination of these two colors is interesting, since pink generally is associated with women and blue is usually associated with men.
“In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.” – Pantone’s website
Now that you’ve got a feel for the meaning and inspiration behind Rose Quartz and Serenity, let’s talk about how to incorporate these airy hues into your wardrobe, and life in general for 2016.
How To Wear Pantone Colors of 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity
Fashion: It’s easy to include both Rose Quartz and Serenity into your wardrobe this year. The color are very soft and can easily be worn in a monochromatic manner to create a statement, or in subtle dashes such as accessories. Since these colors were selected because they work in harmony, you don’t have to be shy about wearing them paired together. However, to avoid a childish combination, select one color as your focus and add sprinkles of the other to pull the look together flawlessly.
Side note: Both colors work incredibly well with denim, which is an easy foundation for a wearable look including the shades.

Beauty: Rose Quartz and Serenity are going to be a major hit in the beauty world, and likely one of the places you will see the colors most. Rose Quartz is the easier of the two to incorporate into your beauty bag and can be worn easily in the form of a blush or a lip color. Serenity makes a bigger statement, but will look incredibly chic as a eyeliner or the color for your next pedicure.
