Black and white is the official color combo of the summer 2013 season. Both of these neutral shades are stunning alone, but really create a sleek look when paired together. The black and white color combination was seen on the runways of Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and J. Crew for S/S 2013.

The great thing about black and white is that you can trick the eyes with just a little bit of color theory. It’s very simple. All you need to know is that white makes objects appear closer, making things appear larger. Black makes objects appear father, making things appear smaller. Take advantage of color theory and use these colors to accentuate your best features and hide the things you don’t like while styling your outfit.
For my black & white outfit I wore a mixed print peplum top to distract the eyes and bring the attention to my upper half. The peplum top is also a very slimming style, but you have to wear it carefully. Make sure the peplum covers your mid section properly, or you may find the peplum style unflattering.
To make my lower half appear slimmer, I wore a pair of black leggings. I paired my black leggings with hot pink kitten heels to give the illusion on longer legs, without sacrificing comfort. For vertically challenged women such as myself, this is a great way to look taller and slimmer in one simple step!
I personally like to take advantage of the neutral color combination to pop in some color with accessories. For this outfit, I decided to add in pops of my favorite color, hot pink. The metallic shoes and hot pink bangle also help to mix in textures to this look and give it a polished finishing touch.
