More about Seattle Fashion Blogger Sahily Perez
The Short Story:
I founded Pretty In Pigment in 2010 as a way to share my love for makeup and beauty with the world. It allowed me to explore my creativity and passion for makeup, and I’ve learned so much about myself along the way. As humans do, I’ve changed over the last 7 years and so has my blog. My then beauty blog has evolved into a fashion-focused lifestyle blog dedicated to women who share the same love for the “colorful things in life” as I do.
I enjoy creating content about plus-size style, beauty, and travel. I occasionally like to sprinkle in bits about the things that are currently happening in my life, such as how I’m decorating my space and what’s on my mind.
The Long Story:
Fashion has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. My career as a fashion designer/stylist technically started in my living room where I produced runway shows with my cousins. Through the years I continued to explore these interests, along with my love for writing and photography. What can I say, I’m a creative gal. I merged the two by starting my first blog in the late ‘90s (this makes me sound really old, but I’m a millennial, I swear!) in the form of a zine. In case you’ve never heard of that because I’m sure most people haven’t, it was basically an email newsletter that I promoted via my sweet AOL profile. That eventually became a Xanga blog, then a Live Journal, and a few random WordPress blogs before Pretty In Pigment was born.
My inspiration continues to change, as I find it from the places I travel to and over the last seven years I have lived all over the country. These places have helped me develop my personal style and aesthetic. It’s the reason I can mix vibrant prints like a pro and pair any look with a raincoat.
Here’s a little roadmap to give you an idea how that’s all unraveled:
New York City- In 2010 I lived in NYC. Since I was young I always knew I would one day live in New York. I never actually visited the city until 2007 and the rest was history. I moved there pursuing my dream of working in fashion while learning more about myself. New York is one of those places that can change you, and it did for me. Its eclectic people and urban scenery helped me put all of the pieces to the things I loved together. It inspired me to not only start a blog but to complete my degree in Communications, with a focus on fashion PR.
South Florida- This is where I’m from. I came back here to finish my Bachelor’s Degree because let’s face it, out of state tuition is no joke. I went to school in Miami and I felt so inspired by the colorful fashion scene there. The loud prints, all white ensembles, and mile high heels are a Miami fashion staple. This is when I decided to make fashion the main beat on my blog.
You would think that transitioning my beauty blog into a fashion blog would be easy for me, after all, I live for fashion. But it wasn’t. See being a plus size girl in a place like Miami where everyone is all about image is no easy task. It made me feel insecure, but I had to put these feeling aside and follow my heart.
I haven’t looked back since.
I guess you can say that Florida is where Pretty In Pigment and I got our saźon! I like to say: You can take a girl out of Florida, but you can’t take the flamingo out of the girl!
Seattle- In the summer of 2016, my husband and I, along with our two very large dogs packed up our lives in South Florida and drove across the country. LITERALLY. We moved to Seattle because we love the balance of metropolis and the beautiful outdoors. Plus, there are no mosquitos or tropical heat waves here and people actually care about their carbon foot print.
Seattle has inspired me to explore the “Urban Monk” side of myself. I’m enjoying things I never knew I loved such as hiking, yoga, and traveling through the PNW. Of course, I do all of these things with great style, which I continue to share with my readers all of the time.
Since the Pacific Northwest is known for being gray and dreary, I’ve made it my personal mission to splash it with color, saźon, and style as long as I’m here. And from the looks of it, I’ll be staying here for a while. 🙂
