I love creating DIY projects that are colorful and cute. When I started to plan a Galentine’s Day party for my bloggin’ babes, I knew I wanted to create a tablescape. My tablescape needed a focal point, and what better thing to make the center of attention than an easy DIY tissue paper flower garland. It was the perfect touch for my Galentine’s Day brunch, but could also work for a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party, and practically any occasion. In fact, I may leave mine on my dining room table through the spring.
The best thing about a DIY tissue paper flower garland is that it’s an inexpensive way to add a wow factor to your party décor. In all, I spent under $10 on the supplies that I used to make my flower garland. Another pro is that making your own flower garland gives you the ability to personalize your flowers. You can create all sorts of flower in any colors that you choose. Plus, it’s a fun project that allows you to flex your creative muscles, without taking too much time. My flower garland took about an hour to whip up, and can work as a last-minute décor project.
During my Galentine’s Day party all of the girls had positive things to say about the tablescape for the party. The girls were particularly impressed with how the DIY flower garland came out. I have to say, I was pretty impressed to since it was the first time I tried making my own flower garland. It also paired perfectly with my party décor from Confetë Party Box.
When I was making my flower garland, I posted about it on my Instagram page. I got a ton of requests for a tutorial. With Galentine’s Day right around the corner, I decided to put one together and share it with you today!

DIY Flower Garland Directions
Start by cutting your tissue paper into a square, based on the size you would like your flower to be. I wanted big flowers so I cut my paper into 8-inch squares. I recommend using 4-6 sheets of tissue paper for best results.
Now, stack your tissue paper for the flower petals and fold the paper like an accordion about six to eight times. Trim any excess paper as needed.
To create the yellow inside of the flower (this step is optional— if you’d like to skip it move into the next step), follow the same steps from above but cut the square half the size of your tissue
Now, stack your tissue paper and fold the paper like an accordion about four times. Then cut into the paper about three inches on each side. Place the yellow accordion of paper in the middle of the folded tissue paper for your petals.
Now, staple all of the tissue paper at the center to form an accordion that looks like a bow tie.
The next step is creating the petals. If you’d like rounded, defined petals, cut your ends in an oval shape. If you’d like a fluffy flower, cut your ends in a jagged zig-zag pattern. Look at the flowers below to get an idea what each of the styles look like.
Then, start unraveling your flower by pulling out each layer of tissue paper.
Once you made all of your flowers, cut a piece of ribbon at your desired length and glue the flowers onto the ribbon.
Last, create leaves with your construction paper and glue them onto the ribbon.
And these you a have it, an easy to make DIY tissue paper flower garland!
